Telegram’s translucency and new application icons

Telegram 纸飞机app has always been a little bit different. Our goal is to make a globally adopted messaging app that connects users, not corporations. We were the first major chat app to open source our code, and we’ve always tried to be as open, honest, and transparent as possible about how we use your data.

That’s why we’re proud to announce that this fall Telegram will be adopting a new brand identity and design elements across all platforms — desktop apps, web, and mobile apps (iOS and Android).

Telegram’s translucency and new application icons

If you’re a Telegram user Telegram中文, you might want to check out the latest updates to its apps. They include a new translucency effect and new icons for desktop apps.

The new translucency effect is only available on the Android version of Telegram X (the beta app), but we predict it’ll make its way over to all other platforms soon enough. It looks like this:

The other big change is the overhauled application icon on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Here’s what that looks like:

Desktop apps

Telegram Desktop is now available in a new, beautiful design. Telegram Desktop’s translucency and new application icons have been designed with more care than ever before. Download it now, or read more about all the changes below.

Telegram X (Android)

Telegram X is a lightweight and fast messaging app. The design of Telegram X is also fast, efficient, and lightweight. This makes it ideal for messaging with your friends quickly and easily.

Telegram X was designed to be a messaging app that can work efficiently on low-end devices, so you don’t have to worry about lag when sending messages or pictures through the app itself.

iOS app

The Telegram iOS app has a new design that’s more consistent with the rest of the Telegram family. The translucency effect on message bubbles is much more prominent and feels like it’s part of the same system as the one in our Android apps—I hope you like it! You can also find new application icons for Telegram X, which you’ll see if you manage to get an invite from us. There’s also a redesigned color palette and font:

For now, this update will roll out only to users who have already downloaded our beta version of the iOS app (and its optional updates). We expect to make this update available for everyone soon; stay tuned!

macOS app

Here’s what the new app looks like:

-New icon, with translucency that’s more pronounced than it has been previously.

-New chat list design, with a strong emphasis on message previews and greater spacing between chats in the list.

-A new “back” button for conversation view of chats (which should make navigating back through your history easier).

-A new profile, search, and settings screen (no longer three separate screens).

Mobile, web, and desktop applications introduce new design elements

Our most recent update introduced new design elements to our mobile, web, and desktop apps. The translucent effect allows you to see the content behind your chats while they’re open, which is especially useful if you’re taking screenshots or need to reference something else while in a conversation.

We’ve also updated our application icons with new colors, shapes, and styles that represent Telegram’s brand personality better. You’ll notice that all of them have been made simpler and more legible by removing unnecessary details like gradients or drop shadows — this makes it easier for users to recognize them at first glance when moving between different applications on their phones.
